Our attorney Ranie Thompson and her client Shelia Moore appeared on the August 31, 2007 CBS Evening News investigative report, "FEMA to Katrina Victims: It's Payback Time."
In the CBS news report Ms. Thompson explained the plight of thousands of Katrina victims who face efforts by FEMA to take back their FEMA benefits. Ms. Thompson spoke of how the FEMA notices and helpline provide little information on why FEMA claims that money is owed, and that the FEMA appeal process is broken.
After more than a year of fighting FEMA for Katrina victim Shelia Moore, Ms. Thompson was able to get FEMA to admit that it had made a mistake and that Ms. Moore did not owe anything to FEMA.
Ranie Thompson is an Equal Justice Works Katrina Fellow attorney with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services. She has handled numerous FEMA appeals. Her fellowship is funded by the Equal Justice Works, JEHT Foundation and the global law firm of Latham & Watkins.
